Where I've Been

Hello, Everyone! I hope 2022 is going well for you. So far, it’s been been a year of significant challenge in my world. If the journeys of my reading/healing clients are any indication, it has been for some of you as well. May the second half of the year be full of joy for all!

For me, this year has brought the death of three loved ones. And, I’ve been dealing with some wild health issues. Difficulties and pain in my human body have taken up a significant amount of time and space; much more than I ever imagined. I’m reminded of the preciousness of the body and of life.

One of the most significant events of the last while began with a two-line email. “I am who you knew as Wendy,” it read. And, “According to western medicine, I have terminal cancer and am writing to see if you want any of the family photos or items.” It was signed by Leah.

In the year 2000, my sister Wendy cut off communication with me and everyone else in our family. I tried for a while; sending letters and pleading for an opening, but she never replied. After two years, I accepted her decision and let it all go. Of all my siblings, she had been the closest to me. We shared a love of personal growth and the metaphysical path. It was a heartbreak to lose her. I tried to google her from time to time, but it turns out she had changed her name to Leah and created a new last name too. And, Leah had moved from Portland to Tucson.

Her email arrived in early February and she left Earth on April 16th. I travelled to visit herbefore she passed and we spoke our truths, made our peace, and reconnected in love. Her grace in the face of death was remarkable. She went willingly and (literally) enthusiastically into the light. Her last text came on a Friday evening: “I just met with hospice. I should be out of body by Monday.” I wished her a good journey. She was gone the following evening.

The pain of losing Wendy/Leah when she closed the door on our relationship those many years ago taught me to never close the door. Sure, some situations require us to put up strong boundaries that must be honored. Even then, I’ll always leave the door to new possibilities open.

Deal-breaker behaviors do call for endings and I will hold light for the prospect of a new beginning too.

I close all my readings with a prayer that begins, “We thank you, God, for this precious time together in Earth…” Precious it is. I am deeply grateful for our time together in Earth, even if it is just a few moments as we connect through this article. I’m emerging into the second half of the year with renewed enthusiasm for life and all the adventures it offers. Onward!
