When we look with spiritual perspective, Coronavirus has brought many opportunities wrapped in challenge. One of the most important is a reminder of the preciousness of life.
We as souls are eternal, outside time and physical density. However, in the material realm, each incarnation is unique. Human life is subset of actual life, but it is so important.
The reality of death brings an urgency to life. Coronavirus has brought death to the foreground of awareness, and so have the murders of George Floyd, Elijah McClain, and of too many other people of color.
When someone has passed back to the spiritual realm; the beautiful, one-time human expression of that soul is complete. The soul will express again in future incarnations, but it will be different.
Each incarnation is truly precious. Time in earth is a treasure.
Too often in our current culture, we deny or bury the inevitability of death. In doing so, we dishonor life. We hide death and hide from it. We live as if it’s not coming, not real. We worship the beauty of fertility while ignoring the hard-earned wisdom of the crone.
But the recognition, the honoring of the reality of death is an important part of human life. Steve Jobs said, “Remembering that I’ll be dead soon is the most important tool I’ve ever encountered to help me make the big choices in life. Because almost everything – all external expectations, all pride, all fear of embarrassment or failure – these things just fall away in the face of death, leaving only what is truly important.”
I speak of death not to freak you out, but to wake you up. In human life, we spend time. Time is like a bank account with an unknown balance. There might be a wealth of time left in this incarnation, or there might not.
It’s important to spend time wisely, having the experiences we desire and that help us grow, the ones that are why we’re here. In addition, it is spiritually important to enjoy the ride along the way, to do what we love, both in work and play.
Time is a resource, and so is attention. Where we place our attention grows. Attention is a commodity, and a valuable one at that. There is a lot of competition for our attention, and for our time. Time and attention go hand and hand, and are truly a dynamic duo.
We spend time and give attention. I like the phrase give attention, rather than pay attention. So where are your spending and giving yours lately?
Are you walking in fear, holding the possibility of death in front of you every moment?
That’s not honoring death. Honoring death means letting the awareness of finite incarnation support our decisions about time and attention. This makes it easier to let go of what’s done, make space for what’s new, and trust ourselves and life itself.
Death reminds us to spend our time and give our attention in accordance with our soul’s path, the true path that is illuminated by desire.
When I say desire, I mean the real thing. If your desire is to be thin, or rich, we aren’t on the same page here. I mean the desire of the soul journeying in earth, indicated by passion. Fulfilling true desire is healing for us and for others.
Often the path of true desire requires us to face our stuff, do our work, and grow. I recently worked with woman who is becoming a healer. The healing skills are no problem for her. She’s a natural.
It is the business side of things that has brought up all her fears of failure, doubts of her worth, and old messages from the past. This journey is a result of true passion and is healing her. And, it will provide healing for all those she serves, because she was willing to follow her path and willing to walk through the personal growth that’s required to manifest it. The soul’s knowing of the growth is part of what fuels the desire.
So, what’s your desire? Where is true passion for you? You may not even know. Often our true path is buried underneath layers of messages from the past and from the culture about who we are and what is of value.
Perhaps it’s a fun question to live and to meditate on. Living with a question rather than insisting on an instant answer is a great way to allow more spiritual information to come through.
As you consider, remember passion isn’t always large-scale. Maybe your soul would like to pet as many dogs as possible in this lifetime, something both healing and joyful! Maybe you’re here to manifest a happy family for your soul group, or to create art that uplifts others. Perhaps you’ll found a new business, invent a product, or provide a service to others. Perhaps you’ll be a catalyst for social change. Perhaps you’ll change the world at large or maybe you’ll change the individual worlds of others with your smile and kind energy.
Notice what calls to you and know that it’s you as soul that’s doing the calling. Answer the call and, when it’s time, you will leave this life having fully lived.
Even with the current restrictions, you can begin. What would you like your life to look like in the coming months and years? Is there something to stop spending time and giving attention to and something to start directing those resources towards?
